Korea Local Guide is a travel site about South Korea, written from inside the country. It covers Seoul, Busan, Jeju, the east coast and the smaller cities in between, with a focus on the questions visitors actually get stuck on: when to go this year, how to move between places without a car, and what things cost.

Most English-language Korea guides are written after a single trip. That is useful, but dates and prices change every season. Much of the up-to-date information here — opening days, festival schedules, foliage forecasts, fare changes — is published only in Korean. This site reads those sources and turns them into plain English.

Who writes this

I am Korean and live in Korea. I spent 18 years working as a systems engineer and about 20 years publishing content on the web. I travel inside Korea the way locals do — by subway, intercity bus and KTX — and I write the guides I would want a friend visiting from abroad to read.

I am not a tour company and I do not sell tours. When a guide mentions a hotel or ticket, it is because it fits the route, not because it pays more.

How the guides are checked

  • Dates, fees and timetables are checked against official Korean sources (national park service, city and provincial tourism offices, operators) and each guide states when they were checked.
  • Prices are given in Korean won. Exchange rates change, so conversions are approximate.
  • I do not describe places I have not been to as if I had. Where a section is based on official information rather than a visit, the guide says so.
  • If you find something out of date, tell me and I will correct it and note the update date.
