Every spring Korean news does the same countdown. Weather maps turn pink from the south coast upward, and office workers plan their lunch breaks around the cherry trees outside. Then one warm week arrives and it feels like the whole country is outside at once.
If you are planning a trip for April 2027, here is the part most guides skip. The blossoms do not wait for your calendar. In 2026, Seoulโs cherry trees opened ten days earlier than normal. People who booked for mid-April found green leaves.
This guide shows what actually happened in 2026, how the blossom wave moves through the month, and how to plan around it.
Checked on October 28, 2026. The 2027 bloom forecasts and festival dates are not out yet; the weather service usually publishes forecasts in late winter. Use the 2026 dates below as a guide, not a promise.

What is the weather like in Korea in April?

April is the month Korea warms up. Afternoons in Seoul are usually pleasant, often warm enough for a T-shirt in the sun. Mornings and nights stay cool, and the temperature can drop ten degrees after sunset. Jeju is mild but windy, and the mountains of Gangwon are still cold.
Two things surprise visitors. First, spring dust. Some days, yellow dust blown from the continent and fine dust turn the sky hazy. Koreans check an air-quality app and wear a KF94 mask on bad days. Second, April showers, especially on Jeju and the south coast. Pack a small umbrella.
Cherry blossoms: what happened in 2026

On March 29, 2026, the Seoul regional weather office announced the cityโs official first bloom. That was ten days earlier than the normal date of April 8, and six days earlier than in 2025. The trees on Yeouidoโs Yunjung-ro, the famous blossom road, opened the same day.
Full bloom usually follows about a week after first bloom. In 2026 the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival ran from April 3 to 7, right in the peak. In the south, the Jinhae Gunhangje festival in Changwon ran from March 27 to April 5.
The lesson for 2027: if blossoms are the reason you are coming, aim for the first week of April in Seoul, and the last days of March in the south. Book refundable hotels, and watch the forecast from February.
Where to go in April

Early April: Seoul
Seoul has more blossom spots than you can see in one trip. Yeouido is the classic: a long road of old trees by the National Assembly, crowded but beautiful. Seokchon Lake by Lotte World Tower is lovely at night. The palaces are quieter, and blossoms against old wooden roofs make the best photos.
Go early in the morning, before 9 a.m., if you want space on the path. At night the trees are lit and the air smells faintly sweet.
If you wear a hanbok, entry to Gyeongbokgung is free. Rental shops by the palace open early.
Late March to early April: the south
The wave starts in the south. Jinhae in Changwon has the biggest festival, with blossoms over a stream and an old railway line at Gyeonghwa Station. Busan and Gyeongju bloom around the same time. Gyeongjuโs Bomun Lake and the tombs downtown look especially soft in pink. See our Gyeongju itinerary and Busan itinerary.
All April: Jeju
Jeju is about yellow, not pink. Canola fields cover the island in spring, and the green tea fields around Oโsulloc look fresh. It is a good choice if blossom timing in Seoul goes wrong. Our Jeju itinerary works without a car.
Mid to late April: tulips and the east
In past years, tulip festivals at Taean on the west coast and at Everland near Seoul ran from mid April into May. On the east coast, Gangneungโs Gyeongpo Lake blooms a little later than Seoul. Higher up, Seoraksan still has late blossoms when the cities have gone green.
Getting around in April
Spring is busy. Book KTX seats a few weeks ahead for weekend trips to Busan, Gyeongju or Gangneung. Inside Seoul, the subway is the fastest way to reach blossom spots because roads near Yeouido close or jam during the festival. Our T-money card guide explains the card you need.
Use Naver Map or KakaoMap for directions. Google Maps does not give full walking or driving directions in Korea, and you will need mobile data for both apps. An eSIM set up before you fly is the easiest way to get it.
Where to stay
For a blossom trip to Seoul, stay near a subway line that reaches Yeouido and the palaces without many transfers. Jung-gu, around Myeongdong and Namsan, works well.
